The John Scofield R&b Quartet

Avec : Nigel Hall, Andy Hess, Terrence Higgins
JazzR'n'B

Aside from being one of the principal innovators of modern jazz guitar, JOHN SCOFIELD is a creative artist of an even rarer sort: a stylistic chameleon who has forged a consistent, rock-solid aesthetic identity. An artist with fan bases in many camps and nearly three dozen albums to his credit, he has expressed himself in the vernacular of bebop, blues, jazz-funk, organ jazz, acoustic chamber jazz, electronically tinged groove music and orchestral ensembles with ease and enthusiasm. His versatility and technical mastery won him early sideman gigs with Miles Davis, Charles Mingus, Gerry Mulligan, Chet Baker and Cobham/Duke among many. Since that time he remains firmly in the foreground of jazz consciousness as a player and composer, prominently leading his own groups in the international Jazz scene, his own albums (many already classics) including collaborations with many contemporary
favorites like Pat Metheny, Steve Swallow ,Charlie Haden, Eddie Harris, Medeski, Martin & Wood, Bill Frisell, Brad Mehldau, Mavis Staples, Government Mule, Jack DeJohnette, Joe Lovano and Phil Lesh.

He's played and recorded with Tony Williams, Jim Hall, Ron Carter, Herbie Hancock, Joe Henderson, Dave Holland, among many jazz legends. Regardless of the stylistic setting, his distinct guitar sound and compositions are unmistakably Scofieldesque, always coupled with an improvisational excellence and dedicated to the finest in jazz tradition. Named an Officier dans L'Ordre des Arts and Lettres by France, Scofield tours the world approximately 200 days per year with his own groups, he is an Adjunct Professor of Music at New York University, a husband and father of two.

Washington D.C. native, singer and pianist Nigel Hall soaked in the sounds of Go-Go music, funk and soul. His musical influences reach far beyond his 29 years; from James Brown to Donny Hathaway. Nigel has recently finished recording his debut album with producer Eric Krasno (Soulive, Fyre Dept, Lettuce) who has enlisted the likes of Adam Deitch, Charlie Hunter, Derek Trucks, Susan Tedeschi and more. In addition to his wotk woth Sulive, Hall performs with Govt Mule.

Andy Hess moved to NYC in 1990 from Oakland, CA where he was firmly established in the Blues and RnB scene. He worked for several years with Leo Nocentelli (of the original Meters) – a gig that put him together with Bernie Worrell of Parliament and Zigaboo Modeliste (also of the Meters.) Andy has toured extensively with singer, songwriter Freedy Johnston, singer Joan Osborne , The Black Crowes John Scofield and Govt Mule. He has recorded with artists such as Freedy Johnston, blues singer Bill Sims, Tina Turner, David Byrne (Talking Heads) and Shawn Colvin.

Drummer Terence Higgins was born in New Orleans in 1970 and was raised in the suburb of old Algiers. Specializing in New Orleans grooves and the Crescent City's second line tradition and early New Orleans funk and R&B, he draws his influences from the legends of New Orleans drumming. His professional career has taken him all over the world playing with an eclectic group of musicians. Terence has performed with artists like Dr. John, Earl King, Marva Wright, Kermit Ruffin, Snooks Eaglin, Johnny Adams, George Porter Jr., The Wild Magnolias, Ivan Neville & Dumpsta funk, Jon Cleary, Donald Harrison, Allen Toussaint, Michelle Shocked, Norah Jones, John Scofield, DJ Logic, Robert Randolph, Widespread Panic, The Black Crows, North Mississippi All-Stars, Treme Brass band, Fats Domino and many other New Orleans artist. He is now touring and recording with the Dirty Dozen Brass Band , Govt Mule and Scofield as well as his own band Swampgrease
